About our materials!

  • 14k gold-filled jewelry has a brass core surrounded by a thick layer of solid 14k gold. Unlike gold plating, this thicker outer layer of solid gold doesn’t easily wear off or tarnish to expose the core metal. It offers the shine and durability of solid gold, and with proper care the golden glow can last a lifetime. Plated pieces are usually the most affordable option, but they wear down faster and may cause skin discoloration over time

When it comes to price, gold-plated jewelry is the most affordable option (think of what you’d find in fast-fashion stores), it wears down faster and may cause skin discoloration. Solid gold is the most expensive jewelry investment. Commonly used in engagement rings and fine jewelry from jewelers. Gold-filled jewelry comes in at a middle price point, making it a longer-lasting, more durable alternative for everyday wear.

Please note: While uncommon, gold-filled jewelry can still cause skin irritation, depending on an individual’s allergies or skin pH.

  • 925 sterling silver is a timeless, high-quality metal made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. This blend gives it the strength needed for everyday wear. With proper care, sterling silver can last a lifetime.

Over time, sterling silver may naturally oxidize and darken, this can easily be polished back to its original glow using a jewelry polishing cloth or other gentle cleaning methods. Sterling silver is a classic affordable choice for those who want lasting, quality silver jewelry.

Please note: While uncommon, sterling silver jewelry can still cause skin irritation, depending on an individual’s allergies or skin pH.

  • 14k Gold-Filled Care:

    • Wipe with a soft cloth after wear to remove oils and residue.

    • Store in a clean, dry, airtight container or jewelry pouch.

    • Use a jewelry polishing cloth when it starts to dull (my favorite is the Sunshine® Polishing Cloth).

    • Wear it often and your natural skin oils can help slow tarnishing!

    • It’s safe to be submerged in water.

    Avoid:

    • Abrasive scrubbing or friction

    • Intense sweating or wearing during workouts or hot environments

    • Pools, hot tubs, and salt water

    • Lotions, perfumes, and harsh chemicals

    • Long exposure to open air when not in use

A note from the creator Maddi:

While the tips above are what’s typically recommended to care for your jewelry, I’ll be honest, I don’t follow them myself (and neither do many of my customers). I wear my jewelry constantly, even swimming in oceans, lakes, rivers, and pools. I’m pretty rough on my pieces, and I’ve watched them hold up for years!

Rings do tend to take the most wear and tear. I’ve seen gold-fill rings reach the end of their lifetime when exposed to rough conditions like intense sweating and repeated abrasion. Over time, the outer gold layer can slowly begin to wear down. But again, that’s with extreme daily use. Most people take better care of their jewelry than I do and your pieces will thank you for it! :)
